I had such a good day yesterday. It's really rare that I'll have a day that starts good and stays good all day

When I woke up I realised I woke up too early and could sleep for another hour, which strangely made me happy, and it was kind of cold in my room so it was so cozy in my bed. Then I went for a walk and it was a nice temp. My bus ran on time, my train was on time and less busy than usual, my tram ran on time and had lots of seats.

I went to an advocacy training thing for kids in out of home care, and found out that it leads to lots of exciting positions that actually pay a decent amount (I was under the impression that it was all volunteer). I had a great time + free lunch. I asked like a thousand questions, and it seems like a great opportunity to do something that actually seems to make a difference and affect the course of legislature and government policy, which seems like a much more rewarding field to work in then selling people grease burgers in sugar buns

I had teriyaki chicken for dinner, which is one of my favourite things to make, even though I haven't had it for a while. And I finished the day off by falling asleep pretty effortlessly

Cross fingers for me everyone - I just put an offer in on the unit I want to buy.
I was going to do it tomorrow after my aunt and I had another look, but I went to another OFI at the last minute and a woman with a family was very keen, so I got my offer in. Hopefully the fact that my offer is unconditional (inspection done, finance sorted) will give me the edge!

They're dirty little bastards. I've watched them fight over a piece of fruit, spit it out, gnaw on the seed, toss then start on another piece. I think they use the seed to sharpen their beaks.

A swarm of them got into my neighbour’s tree a few years back. Not sure what sort of fruit it was but they all fell on my roof and created a massive racket early one morning.

I think they’ve removed that tree now though as I haven’t had a repeat of it since.

Booo for stealing all your fruit though.

Still haven't heard back from the job. Expecting an answer tomorrow. Tbh I think it'll be bad news, but I'm really hoping it's not.

Just have to wait and see...

Yo whaddap guys I'm awake before 10am and am going to steady my nerves and start refining my CV today before I get sucked into some other form of media.

Also clean the fuck out of the mess I left in the kitchen yesterday.

And accept the fact that I may have thrips on this peace lily I inherited from my deceased neighbour and need to do something about it stat, even though it feels futile. Eco-oil is all I have at the moment, guess I'll try that.

e: woof, first psychiatrist telehealth appt of the year, no safety net, $250 gone like that... but I did get 35 minutes rather than the 15-20 minutes I'd normally get, and I've locked in 6 months worth of scripts so I'll take it

I’ve been neglecting the plants. Most of the spinnos are gone, the two remaining starting to bolt. Everything else is alive.

The rosemary cuttings in the paper cups on the windowsill are still bent wrong in the stem but have new growth.

I pulled up the biggest carrots to make room for the rest to grow. I haven’t been keeping up on the fertiliser so they’re a bit slow growing and small. Tiny even.

But they look like little round carrots and have a strong carrot smell.

    Paris Market carrots

I have acquired myself these from the front yard. Do tell me exceptionally British reasons why I deserve them.

I went to a Korean place for lunch (oriental spoon on Elizabeth St). I had always assumed it would be average and overpriced due to its really good location. I was wrong! It was relatively cheap, $18 lunch special Bento Box which was huge - had bulgogi, spriNg rolls, fried chicken, salad. I got a serve of beef bulgogi on a sizzling plate, it came with rice and the side dishes of kimchi etc. it was $22 and ENOURMOUS, and delicious! I'm guessing like 400g of just beef, definitely meant for two people. I somehow ate it all which baffled my dining companion. 8.5/10. Food coma worth it

Thank goodness I have tomorrow off. Boss has been a hard taskmaster this week and I'm knackered. It made me feel old and sad, that I can't work at the pace of a workaholic man a couple of years younger than me🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ About 80% of this first week back seemed to consist of things I haven't done before, and I really tried to be as helpful as possible but didn't really nail it. I guess I work to live and not the other way around.

Feeling rather ordinary today, between the infection itself, the antibiotics and the tetanus injection. At least I don't have to go anywhere.
Still no sign of pakige. Poo. :(

So, Google just did the whole "four years ago" photo nostalgia thingy with a cute pic of the kids.

Forget the photo. FOUR YEARS AGO WAS 2020!!

    Door stuck send halp 😩

REA sending someone, hopefully they come soon. Atleast I won't have to pay for this one 💁‍♂️

E: God damn it. The REA sent me details of the tradie and when I called him, he said he's not working until next week. What the hell REA 🙄 now they aren't answering the phone ffs

E2: an hour back the new tradie said they'll be there within the hour but now they called and said they won't be here until 4pm. I'm so annoyed now. Annoyed and jetlagged.

Try pulling the door towards you then pull down on the handle and push.

I have to do this when my door swells from the heat at times.

Only thing I’m unsure of is if the key is actually unlocking the door for you.

Do you have the tradie's reply as a text? If so, then call the fire brigade - and tell them that you are trapped. And mention that the tradie the REA specified can't attend until next week. Ask if they have a tradie they can recommend who IS available. Give the REA's details as the contact if you're game.

The fire brigade don't make tradie recommendations. The only advice you will be given is to call a locksmith. There are plenty of 24hr locksmiths around, finding one and arranging it are up to you.

The only reason to call the fire brigade if you are locked in (or out) is if there is a life threatening emergency, like having an infant locked inside unatended or if you are a diabetic needing to access your insulin. In that case the brigade can attend and break the door down for you.

No, I called the tradie and he told me he's not working. I just met the REA as she was in the building and she's arranged for someone else to come let me in. Hopefully this one comes soon.

What I don't understand is, how does the REA not know that the tradie is not working? How did they assign him a job without checking??? 🙄

most of them dont know. Trades HATE using the REA's platform because the REA's platform is often dogshit or worse try to charge the trade to use it (by the platform owner, not the REA). plus REAs are just customers of the tradies, so the tradies dont necessarily tell the REA that they are going on holiday. Even if they did (and some do) most systems dont have the capability to mark the trade as absent till X date.

Long story short: its a process less hellhole of organization.

It's similar to how V/Line allocates emergency replacement buses.

They have a big list, and start calling the first one. If they can't do it, they get bumped down the list and they call the next bus operator on the list, until they have a hit.

It's much easier than having to track the availabilities of every operator.
