I have a gum abscess and no reasonable way to see a dentist. I would get these sometimes as a kid and they just went away, but I learned tonight they can fucking kill you. Fun.
Just to be clear, I literally might die of being too poor. And I'm a privileged whitey in the US.
I have had great oral hygiene my entire adult life and idk why its like this.
As a dentist pointed out to me last time I was able to see one, you literally cannot take care of your teeth properly on your own. Plaque will build up and you will need the specialized tools dentists use in order to deal with that. Brushing and flossing is great, but it's not enough.
Yep, definitely do it if you have the option at all. I'm gonna be looking into it for sure, but at the same time there's this fucked up logic going "ok the chance this kills me is probably below 1%, maybe it's not worth the cost of going to the dentist" because the cost of going to the dentist could also severely endanger me in other ways.
As a last resort type of activity you can get antibiotics from smaller pet stores for a reasonable price. I can't in good conscious reccomend it. I've done it though. Probably tetracycline around 250mg 3x day. With food. If it comes in a powder your best bet is to get a cheap thing of herbal supplements dump the herbs from the gell caps amd place the medicine in. It tastes fuck awful so just swalloing does work, unless you are way better at it than me. Be aware bad reactos are more likely cauze vet grade meds aren't held to as high a standard as people meds. Also, alergies to antibiotics are common.
A better option is to go to an er get antibiotics, and not pay the bill when it comes. Still not great as far as options go but Americana you know
another option is to specifically ask a doctor for older antibiotics. penicillin is practically free, for example, and still works great against most bacterial infections.
yeah. doctors tend to prescribe newer antibiotics by default for a number of different reasons, but there are plenty of good older antibiotics out there that are much cheaper.

Anyway you could get to a dental school? I imagine the students could treat you
That's a thought for sure. If it gets noticeably worse I'll figure something out. For now I'm just hoping it goes away.
You don't qualify for medicaid?

That depends on the price of a doctor's visit in your area. However yes, that us preferable to my options
yes, of course. also a good point.

A lot of dentists will treat that sort of situation for free. Sort of a hippocratic oath type thing.
