I have a gum abscess and no reasonable way to see a dentist. I would get these sometimes as a kid and they just went away, but I learned tonight they can fucking kill you. Fun.

Just to be clear, I literally might die of being too poor. And I'm a privileged whitey in the US.

Sometimes people see me treat my kids with kindness or respect in a way they find unusual and ask, “aren’t you worried that you’re setting unrealistic expectations for the world?” And the answer is yes. I am worried precisely because I am setting unrealistic expectations. And when the world fails my children, it will not be my fault that they react with the correct indignance. But when they treat themselves with kindness and understanding and when they don’t think little enough of themselves to think they somehow deserve the abuse, that will be a success of our parenting, at least in part.

A lot of it is also stuff that’s just setting boundaries for my children too. I have a friend who snoops through his daughter’s Roblox DMs to make sure no one’s grooming her and I’m like if you can’t trust her to exist safely on a platform, the answer is not to condone her using it and then secretly monitor her. The same behavior from a future partner of hers would send you through the fucking roof. But then again, if she finds out you’re snooping she’s not gonna tell you about that shit anyway

Of course I’d kill baby hitler, grandma. Heck, I’d punt a baby founding father and tackle a toddler Ronald Reagan if I could.

    Anymore brain busters???

Thinking about how isolated the seats of power are from the problems that affect "the masses". Living in DC, we've been almost completely immune from the supply chain disruptions, for example. We're seeing inflation here, but otherwise, life goes on. I can still get rare goods from Zanzibar or whatever, or get my pointless crap delivered within two days. Even with all the problems USPS has been having for years, my mail still arrives promptly. And this sort of shit makes it even that much harder for all the politicians and executives that live here to really understand the problems people are facing.

Anyone else notice the drop in Guillotine jokes after wood and other building material prices skyrocketed?

Got a case of the lonely today. :sadness:

I think I might become a lone cat woman next year, and I can kiss what little social skills I have goodbye.
