Chogha Zanbil Is an ancient Elamite complex in the modern-day province of Khuzestan, in Iran. It is one of the last standing ziggurats outside of Mesopotamia.

The Elamite language is a language isolate (meaning it is not connected to any known language families), but Chogha Zangil is typically translated as ‘basket mound’. It was built about 1250 BC by the king Untash-Napirisha, mainly to honor the great god Inshushinak, the Elamite protector deity of Susa. Its original name was Dur Untash, which means 'town of Untash' in Assyrian, but it seems unlikely that many people, besides priests and servants, ever lived there. The complex is surrounded by three concentric walls, which define the main areas of the 'town'. The inner area is taken up with a great ziggurat, dedicated to the main god, which was built over an earlier square temple with storage rooms also built by Untash-Napirisha.

In the middle area, there’s eleven temples, for some of the lesser gods. It is believed that twenty-two temples were planned, but Untash-Napirisha died before they could be completed, and his successors had little interest in completing this project. In the outer area are royal palaces, a funerary palace containing five subterranean royal tombs.

Although the city’s construction halted after Untash-Napirisha died, it was still used for its intended purpose, until the Assyrian king Ashurbanipal in 640 BC. Some scholars speculate, based on the large number of temples and sanctuaries found at Chogha Zanbil, that it represented an attempt by Untash-Napirisha to create a new religious center (possibly intended to replace Susa) which would unite the gods of both highland and lowland Elam at one site.

Hot take that I thought of this morning, someone tell me if I’m stretching this: The Biden Administration “circumventing” the fight for abortion rights by allowing abortion pills by mail without a doctor falls in the very harmful and violent “respectability politics”. Where liberals are always like “be gay, but not that kind of gay”, “be queer but not that queer”, “be black but not that type of black (if they are truly evil they’d say the n-word, ala chris rock sketch)”. Police yourself, and we will give you a modicum of rights and access to society. Refuse to police yourself, demand more than crumbs, and we will shame you.

So with abortion, democrats talk about the right to choose. The right to manage family, to protect against abuse, and incest cases. But what of the pregnant person that simply doesn’t want children and needs access to abortions just because? What of the woman whose pills give her depression or make her gain weight. What of the pregnant person whose IUD was a painful and life-threatening experience. An abortion (early and without roadblocks) would be no more painful or harmful than a routine doctor visit. For that pregnant person we have pills, so you can induce an abortion in silence, away from the public, don’t leave your house. Because you are being that type of woman. A pregnant person who did things wrong, who got pregnant in the first place.

What would a society that rightly and proudly affirms the right for a pregnant person to choose truly look like? A society that let them manage their bodily autonomy, with no societal violence, protestors, death threats, and state violence claiming “state interest” on their fucking uterus. That would ban protesters from within 500 ft of a clinic. That had a supreme court that cut down every single law banning and putting roadblocks to women’s healthcare access. That federally funded abortions, like any other routine medical procedure. What would that society look like?

Sounds pretty spot on to me, its a plague upon many progressive causes that the only way people dare to promote them is through worst-case scenarios that "no one would dare object to" instead of just fighting for it as a fundamental right everyone should have free access to, and then try to hide it away so it doesnt cause any ruckus.
