Most internet activism is pure cringe. Honestly don't think the Mei thing would have happened if not for Blizzard absolutely panicking and punishing that dweeb at the Heathstone Tournament. Don't even know if Blizzard would have been punished by China for allowing him to announce his support for the protests.

I think that guy explicitly broke Blizzard's 'no politics' rule to martyr himself.
Also one of their largest markets is the Chinese market and it turns out a lot of mainland Chinese people actually agree with the government positions and upsetting them would lose Blizzard way more users than upsetting a few terminally online Americans with zero political or historical literacy.
