First of all, I want to say thank you to everyone here for being so supportive. When I originally reached out to Wmill about making a post in c/games, I just wanted to see if it was okay to share my game here. Even though you guys have always been very supportive, I never expected this much.

I also want all of you to know that every person who plays my game is literally helping me survive. In a few months, I may or may not be housing insecure depending on how this goes, so if enough people check it out I might actually be able to afford things this year like being able to pay rent, or even luxuries like going to the dentist. That's how much of an impact your support will have on my life.

But ultimately, even if only a modest sum of people actually like my game, I will be able to consider that a triumph no matter what happens. Being able to afford to live is real swell, but ultimately I did this because I felt that I needed to - that it was the only thing I could even stand to do with my time. To quote David Graeber again from a comment I made a few days ago: "Freedom is our ability to make things up just for the sake of being able to do so."

So you can get Kor on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1374280/Kor/

A few people mentioned that they hated Steam, so I went to the effort to get it listed on itch.io as well: https://goadstool.itch.io/kor

Some said they wanted to help out more than just buying the game, so I will say that itch.io lets you name your own price for a game, though I certainly don't expect anyone to pay more than the minimum! It's also a dollar off at launch, to sync up with the Steam Winter sale. If you do end up playing Kor though, and enjoy it at all, please do me a favor and give it a little positive review; it encourages randos to give the game a chance and makes it more favorable in Steam's algorithm.

So lastly I'm going to say thank you again everyone for even caring about my work at all. Obviously I'm going to be scanning this thread all day while I work Twitter (and maybe :reddit-logo: even) so feel free to ask me anything about development or my experience or whatever, this will be my own little launch party! I think I'll even have a pizza, with spinach and mushrooms :party-blob:

(Also if you happen to find any real bugs or if the game crashes, please don't hesitate to let me know with a screenshot and I will rush to fix them right away)

Wtf the post has 200 upbears! :mao-clap:

I just got it and took about 10 minutes getting to the battle tutorial because I had to run around and interact with everything I could. Gotta hand it to you for how thorough you were with the flavor text. Also as others have said I like your writing. No bugs yet so far, I've done playtesting so I tend to go into games looking for ways to break them I'll let you know if I spot anything.

I'm so glad that people are enjoying that part. Not all the interaction dialog is amazing, some of it's a little generic, but I always thought it was a shame that the "narrator voice" in RPGs tended to be so... sterile. I wanted to give it a little more flavor, and use it to make the world a little more vibrant.

I will also say since people have been talking about CrossCode here lately that playing it actually inspired me to make a lot more stuff interactable, because when I was playing CrossCode the world was so beautiful I wanted more things to interact with.

I love that it ranges from short but evocative descriptions of what's on someone's shelves and then you walk up to a painting and it just says "Slug"

IDK but I chuckled at that, it's my sort of dry sense of humor I guess.

Oh yeah, if you really go digging, let me know if you find any of the easter eggs. There's three of them and they're designed to be so obtuse almost nobody will even see them. I wouldn't be surprised if no one ever finds two of them, at least without cracking into the game code or something.

Right now I'm just anticipating a maelstrom of bugs I'm going to have to fix with so many new people playing the game, but more updates may come later! I at least plan to look into Mac and Ubuntu releases in the coming months.

As far as Linux goes you're already golden. Running it through Proton in Steam works perfectly—I'm running it on NixOS so I assume other Linux distros too will work out of the box.

Fuck yeah, that's great to hear. I'm planning to do an official port to Linux eventually, but I've also had a few friends ask me for a Mac version so I'll look into that too. It's good to know people can check it out in the mean time though!

The game can be challenging, but I also like to think the dialog is cozy, so I hope it's a comforting experience at the end of a grueling work day :comfy:

I had the chance to play some of it finally and I agree. It's a very pleasant experience. But the combo inputs have me resonating with the line, "I know enough about this game to know I'm not good at it." Great stuff, Goadstool. I look forward to playing more.

Hahaha, oh no. I did want to make the game difficult but not TOO difficult. But I did notice that some people just had more trouble with the combos than others. I don't know if you saw the tips I gave in other places in the thread but I'll give you them and an extra one too:

            • Practice the combos between your turns, it'll help you get the muscle memory
            • Take them slow at first, so you can just cement the pattern in your mind
            • and an extra tip: I found with some combos, it helped me to kind of segment them into 2 parts in my brain. That way there's a tiny delay between the two segments, but it's easier to do them overall

Also I've said this a bunch but, don't be ashamed to swap to Story difficulty, I really want people - especially my comrades - to be able to see the whole game! Or at least a majority of it. Without really spoiling anything, I think those with revolutionary aspirations will find the ending at least somewhat satisfying.

But yeah, thank you! Don't hesitate to drop it a review on Steam, even if it's a short one. The more it has, the more traction it'll get in Steam's algorithms. Plus it'll help shield me from the cruelness of strangers when I go promote it soon on imgur and :reddit-logo:

Wow this comment is super long, sorry. If you have any questions or need any help don't hesitate to ask, you can consider the dev on-call :fidel-salute-big:

My composer did a fucking amazing job, he made the soundtrack so much better than I ever could have if I did it myself, and really helped flesh out the tone of the game, giving it so much life.

Here's his Twitter because even though I made most of the game myself, I need my fellow worker to get credit for his labor: https://mobile.twitter.com/Lewmothmusic

I'm totally overwhelmed by how many of my comrades are enjoying my game. I have a couple more aces up my sleeve to play in terms of promoting the game, but I will wait until enough good reviews come in to give the game a positive rating on Steam (IF enough good reviews come in).

In the mean time, I'm going to say thank you for like the 30th time because I really really REALLY appreciate all your supportive words and nice comments about Kor! :soviet-heart:

You know what? During Kor's development when I was really stuck on something, I would go out on my apartment balcony and have a drink and kind of pace around to think through things. My eyes are melting atm from reading so many comments and spam-refreshing twitter and steam and itch and hexbear, so I'm gonna give my eyes a few minutes rest from staring at screens and take a triumphant lap around the balcony!

30 minutes in and it's exactly what I'd hoped for! Adorable, with great music and visuals with a curiously addictive gameplay. It's harder than I anticipated; I haven't gotten above a C on any of the moves! Enjoying it thus far, looking forward to watching the story unfold. Slug.

The final boss is especially hard! Even I lose to them often during my test runs. I'll give you a couple tips:

      1. Try to practice the combos between your turns, it'll help you get the memory down
      2. Try to do combos slowly at first, just to memorize the pattern!

Also if you get hard stuck, don't be afraid to swap to Story mode, the only real difference is a Steam achievement, and I want as many people as possible to see the ending!
