I made a double whiskey oldfashioned a little bit ago. Now I'm having a green tea with thc/cbd infused honey. :comfy-cool:

I hope everyone is having a good night. :meow-hug:

Water, because I'm a recovering alcoholic about 1 year "sober" (minus a drink maybe, once every couple months because I can finally control myself) :comfy-cool:

    Enjoy your drinks all!

Congratulations, comrade. I was a heroin addict for quite some time and that was hard enough. If I knew I could get h in any convenience store in the country? I'd be fucked.

Thank you! Took a good 4 years of going a few months sober, then back at it, rinse/repeat. But the pandemic oddly enough, since I used to drink heavily to cope with stress/anxiety, helped break it. Taking away social aspect of it for a good chunk of time made it way easier, and deadass I think quarantine helped move my alcohol addiction to video game addiction but I'll take it for now lol 🤦‍♂️ :gamer-gulag:

And congrats to you too. I've had several acquaintances go through heroin addiction, withdrawal, and recovery, and from what they told me, I can't even begin to imagine how hard it is breaking that. Keep it up!

Just cracked a seasonal local dubbel. I like a tripel but I think they're harder to do well, a nice dubbel is a good medium fancy drink.

Drinking local is always the best. Not only are you keeping your cash local and out of some corps bank account for longer. But the beer is fresher, and fresh beer is usually the best beer*.

      *Property aged beers don't apply

Yeah I just moved to a town with a brewery that only does Belgian beers and makes some of the most reliably great beers in the province :stalin-approval:

What if I judge you for only having 3? And white claws are good. If you like what you're drinking, you've already won.

kratom tea as usual! "elephant" which really is just a mix of older red leaves and green leaves.

I have bad reactions to opiates, and sadly had a similar reaction to kratom. Opiates, and unfortunately kratom as well, make me anxious and restless. I really enjoyed the experience outside of my body's reaction to it.

in a way i'd say you could count yourself lucky for your reaction. opiates always played waaaay too nice with my body and it got me into some trouble years ago. i wish i had discovered kratom long ago though it's about as gentle as an opioid gets and works in such a different way i'd almost call it opioid-like or a psuedo-opioid.

Yeah it's blessing more than a curse. I was born with a physical birth defect that required surgery, and I have life long pain from it. I've had Dr after Dr try to shove pills at me for pain, and lucky for me I can't take them. My ex-wife struggled with an opiate addiction for years and years and I am very aware that it could have been me.

I was kind of hoping that kratom would sneak by and not cause issues since it's different enough. But no luck. I really enjoyed the mellow pain relief, but the restless legs and anxiousness ruined the mood.

kratom acts as a stimulant during the onset so that might have something to do with the anxiety and RLS. part of the reason it's so different and less "mentally slowing" then opioids but could be the reason. best i could suggest is to try a "red leaf" strain before you totally discard it since they tend to have less of the more stimulating alkaloids.

How much of an effect does the tea have? I use the powder on a regular basis and it works well but holy fuck does it taste bad.

i basically make an unfiltered tea. i leave the powder in like it's matcha but let it steep in hot water for a bit. it kicks it in a bit quicker like that. and i've gotten used to the taste (been using kratom for like 5 years now). lol i can even tell you rough potencies and age of the leaf based on taste now. it's like coffee, gross by default but eventually you associate the good feeling with the taste.

Next you're at the store, have a look for Mt Gay. I like the black barrel. It usually costs around $25-35 for a bottle depending on the store.

Try Cruzan Gold if you can find it. It’s not the greatest but generally considered to punch well outside of its weight class. $16-$17 for a handle around here. https://rumratings.com/rum/254-cruzan-gold

Great for making shitty high ball mix drinks (rum & cokes). Use it in a fancier drink too and just float a tiny bit of a nice rum on top. Smell is a huge part of taste and that float is going to be wafting right up into your nose.

I used to be the same way with tequila but I think it was only because for a long time my only experience with it was drinking Jose Cuervo too quickly back when I was... new to alcohol.

Oh it's for sure my fault. I was young and dumb doing tequila shots because it seemed like a good idea at the time. I just got over my aversion to vodka, and it took me years.

My favorite cheap whiskey is mellow corn, but I use that exclusively for whiskey sours. For everything else I usually keep around some makers. My friend that got it for me got it because he likes it better than makers and wanted me to try it.
