Kids going back to class on Wednesday. Doesn't seem like the union really got that much.

    Big time L.

When it came to individual school closures, CPS compromised with the CTU and agreed to shut down a building for at least five days if 30% or more of its teachers are absent for two consecutive days because of positive cases or quarantines, and if substitutes can’t get the absences under 25%. A school would also close if 40% of its students were quarantining.

That seems like a pretty high threshold.

Asked if President Joe Biden should use his “bully pulpit to tell the teachers union in Chicago to get back in the classroom,” she said Biden “has been very clear” that “we are on the side of schools being open. ... We will continue to convey that clearly.”

Of course it probably doesn't help when they really didn't have very many people on their side...:deeper-sadness:

CTU's reputation seems to be getting worse and worse around Chicago. This is purely anecdotal, mind you, but talking to friends and neighbors I really get the sense that the city's anti-union campaigning has be more successful over the last few years. Sucks man.

If you look at my post history the union had a MOA outlining the conditions for returning to remote learning, the board of Ed basically threw the agreement out.

If the board of Ed can unilaterally throw out any agreement with no consequence then what’s even the point of a union?

You mean the state is working to make unions an ineffective tool for exerting working power?? :thinkin-lenin:
