    For real

People who got enraged over EA buying all the smaller developers and then shuttering them when they didn't sell billion dollar birthday games are cheering this on like it's any different

    ProTip: It ain't

Shit, on one hand I agree with this

But in principle I don't think a bunch of devs who are working towards unionizing should be fired

i mean the purchase is a bad thing for everyone that's not microsoft/activision management but at least if activision goes under after being bought by microsoft it's a net win for the rest of humanity (obv if activision workers manage to unionize that changes this)

it probably has completely fucked the unionization effort, but maybe one last big shot at PR spotlight will let them do something cool before it's over, considering the giant whirlwind of shit microsoft just purchased and will want to immediately start sweeping under the rug

It is different though. Microsoft killed those studios when they were legitimately terrified of anti-trust. In our current state of contradictions however there is literally no pretense of capital being restrained. Microsoft is also no longer the top dog in technology and afraid that facebook and valve will beat it in VR like it missed the boat on mobile (VR won't actually be a game changer like mobile but tech bros are convinced it will be).
