When I first saw the this video I thought it was funny as hell. Exactly the kind of narrative the modern media machine would create from its vacuum of creativity - a paint by numbers melodrama with none of the spirit of the property whose name it trades on in order to get noticed.
Will Smith apparently thought it looked like a great idea.
Counter point: This could potentially do something interesting with the concept instead of just remaking a sitcom that already exists.
The original show had moments that were more serious where you could tell they were trying to actually drill into concepts of class and race in Amerika. These always had to be tied up in a neat bow by the end of the episode however to fit the Sitcom framework the show existed in.
I’ll be giving this a shot, but I’m also not expecting much because well… NBC.
I hope so. I watched Fresh Prince religiously as a kid, and I would love if they came up with something good.
But nothing that's been shown so far gives me any hope.
Right? Me too. I’d honestly be completely writing this off if they did a soft reboot ala “Fuller House”.
Pitch for that hellworld:
I mean, sure it can be an interesting concept, but if it's not a sitcom starring Will Smith, then why use the same character names and why set it in Bel-Air? Just make a new show.
