What is happening? Like I've seen some things here that Germany isn't playing ball or something, but what's the full story? Anyone got a good article?

US and UK want war. EU states don't.

France and Germany have advocated for de-escalation and apparently somewhat successfully negotiated with Russia and Ukraine, and the US aren't happy because they weren't included in the negotiations.

        Ukraine/EU: I consent (to not starting WW3)

Russia: I consent (to not starting WW3)

Perfidious Anglos: Isn't there someone you forgot to ask?

Germany want Russian gas, NATO too far to respond anyway, if Russia invades the war will be over by the time NATO forces arrive.

Any nearby NATO affiliates are hodgepodge, uncoordinated, or simply don't have the resources to cross through or over the countries (including some NATO member states) around the Ukraine that are refusing to participate.

Alexander Mercouris' has done a pretty good job covering it on YouTube, though his videos are very long.

The whole point is to invade Russia, occupy it, regime change in Moscow, and break up the Russian Federation into small states that will be easily dominated by Western banks. Then China can be surrounded from the north and more pressure applied until they agree to be subservient to the banks as well. Then there's only Iran and a few stragglers, and then the real work of building a global governance can begin.

I really doubt they would want to Balkanize Russia further. Half those states will go for some form of soviet revival, the other half will be far right either Islamist or white-nationalist. Plus they wouldn't want a border with China to the north. Too big, not good terrain, and would require a serious a competent presence all throughout that border region.

Breaking Russia up is the only way to make sure they'll never be a threat again. It's what Hitler wanted to do. These successor state governments will be appointed by the Davos aristocracy and will run their countries into the ground the way Yeltsin did in the 90s. Neoliberals will make a handsome profit doing it.

Too big, not good terrain, and would require a serious a competent presence all throughout that border region.

The US can just mint new dollars to pay for it all. It's not like it's real money.

Except they would need to keep those states afloat if they wanted a buffer and means of invading China. You cannot both destabilize and throw caution to the wind, in the same move as building a front-line for what would be a world war. Also NATO wants threats, they existentially need them. This is how HOI4 TNO works, not the real world.

America would just bomb them into stone age.

Which is costly and doesn't work against insurgents.
