It's crazy how libs are championing this. /r/politics is calling it masterful 4-d chess, because apparently republicans have to either let the deal through and give Brandon a "win" or block it and give Brandon a talking point on how he's tough on immigration but the republicans aren't.

Bro THEY DON'T CARE. If republican hypocrisy had any negative impact on voters there wouldn't be any elected republicans left.

Love to have the most progressive president since FDR push draconian immigration policy in an attempt to play a game of gotcha with people who don't care in front of voters who don't care

Guarantee those people live in majority liberal cities. They don't know what it's like to live in a reactionary society and just how many twists those people can put their brains through to justify anything.

draconian policies are very popular, evidently. but moreover, Biden is not trying to win staunch Republicans, he's trying to cement his appeal among the sliver of constituents that put him over the top last cycle (normal, suburban whites). making the GOP take seditious positions on immigration is probably a fine strategic move; and, while the redditor-lib affect --one of earnest, sycophantic defense of Biden-- is really lame, i wouldn't conclude that immoral positions are identical with strategic mistakes. if moral clarity and rectitude were sufficient to win, the Left should be, i'd like to think, undefeated.

Shut down more trade with a major trading partner, and we'll get the truckers themselves to cheer it on! The cucks! porky-happy Then we can jack up prices even more as the manufactured "border crisis" causes another "supply chain" issue.

Anytime a liberal talks about how they're tricking republicans because if they don't do it they'll be hypocrites could save a lot of time and energy by just copy and passing "I don't know the first thing about politics and have actively resisted learning anything for the last 6 decades."

They could literally set up gun turrets on the Rio Grande and Abbott would still talk about how Biden is "weak on the border" and bang the secessionist drum because he refuses to approve a first strike against Mexico City. It doesn't matter what compromise the-democrat makes, because the-republican will always just ask for more. It costs them nothing and their voters don't fucking care. Anyone who says otherwise is a dumb fuck who doesn't understand the first thing about politics.

Obviously Biden wants to do this, but he’s signing on this specifically because in exchange he’s getting all the money he wants for Ukraine and Israel.

huh? if the GOP rejects the deal, Biden gets a feather in his cap, if the GOP rejects the deal, they look extreme and silly to the small sliver of marginal, contestable voters.

obviously there's nothing Biden can do to win MAGA chuds; they'll pick the real fascism every time. but he doesn't need to -- he only needs to cement the 3pct or whatever of normal suburban whites who used to be moderate Republicans (the same constituents that he took in 2020). and those people probably don't like the "vibe" of American being overrun by foreigners, and also probably think that seceding from the Union is unserious and dangerous.

also, I'd think: the material interests just won't produce a progressive, humane policy; the people that would most materially benefit are the prospective immigrants who are definitionally non-voters. the Atlantic readers with No Human is Illegal yard signs aren't abandoning Biden for this; the Left, such that is, has already been brought to heel (and those who plan to withhold votes or support are already jumping ship over Biden's genocide; in for a penny, in for a pound, the Dem advisors must think).

I mean look at the situation so far. Even before this, Biden has been tighter than Trump. Have the GOP acknowledged that? No! Biden is a democrat, democrats are loose on border security, QED Biden is loose on border security, even if the facts say otherwise. Republicans will repeat this to anyone who listens, and they will continue to do so indefinitely.

Normal democrat moment. Scold people for being racist and blaming immigrants for all of the problems caused by rich people. Refuse to point out that rich people are actually the problem. Participate in racially motivated attacks on immigrants.

Edit: Wonder why nobody seems to believe you when you say racism is bad.

This last step requires the dubious assumption that there's a little bit of self criticism happening.

This still isn't going to be enough cruelty for the reactionaries they're trying to cater to. This would be some of the strictest, cruelest border policy in the world and yet it's still not going to be enough. It's going to eventually be extrajudicial killings performed by border patrol against any migrant they see, and I'm pretty sure it already is.

Remember when a bunch of militia chuds held bunch of migrants at gunpoint a few years back and border patrol happily cooperated with them and arrested the migrants?

Here we go, found it: CW Racism, Law enforcement. https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/salvadorhernandez/militia-group-border-migrants-detain-united-constitutional

Edit: I have a ominous feeling that stuff like this will become very common in the near future and we'll see even more integration between cops and chud militias. Like the cops letting KKKyle Rittenhouse go home after shooting BLM protestors.

The shutdown would not lift until...two weeks of less than 3,750 migrant encounters per day

biden-point : "It's the ultimate solution! The worse we make things for South/Central America the less responsibility we have to take for dealing with it! And not only that, it's means tested, so technically it's the migrant's fault when the border is permanently shut down, not ours."

So essentially they're going to incite midnight mad dashes once that count resets. People are going to try to be the first few thousand, only for them to say "nope, we met our quota already [insert racial slur here] lol!".

Biden should have immediately merced Abbot, this is a pretty massive jump in the ratchet effect. If the this is what the "most progressive president ever" does, the fuck is the point of trying to "stop fascism in America"? Like, the fucking facists won so hard they play their opponents like a fiddle and their opponents think they're fighting back! Hopefully a complete shutdown of the boarder will send the empire into a tailspin and it'll actually collapse.

I like how this bill literally puts migrants into a prisoner's dilemma type situation. Couldn't just do physical torture, had to throw in a "If I try to cross with my family I could end up shutting down the border for weeks."

Anyway, Texas and other states will say that crossings are enter bullshit number here and never source those to justify never allowing any migrant in.

Once shutdown, there would have to be fewer than 3.7k encounters per day for two weeks to reopen. In December, there was an average of 14k encounters per day. They won't even have to fake the numbers to ensure the border remains shut.

I’ve found success in getting right wingers to accept that US foreign policy is devastating Latin America by pointing to Hilldawg’s involvement in the Honduran coup. They don’t accept that we have any responsibility to take but they suddenly find it believable that the US funds war crimes down there

Holy shit he's literally going to get rid of the ability to seek asylum.

Also "doesn't restart until interactions fo down to below 75% of the normal number"

So day one they shut it down and then all the people they refuse to acknowledge get counted for the next day meaning it never gets opened again.

This is worse than anything Trump did at the border. I will stop entertaining any arguments from liberals that Biden is even a harm reduction candidate. This makes him explicitly worse than Trump.
