David Leonhardt is ~15 years younger than Friedman and Brooks. They are dipshit generalists and he's just a dipshit covid specialist but I do believe he could come into his own in the very near future.

Everyone is crazy and somehow become a phd holder in epidemiology

What amazes me is that even around 2005ish when I was on Myspace - people were starting to refuse to say "I don't know..." or "I'll have to check..." or "I was wrong..." And now people being crazy and being an expert on everything while knowing nothing is fully normalized. It's truly a golden age for people like Joe Rogan. No wonder Spotify gave him $100 million for his shit podcast.

I work at one of those shitty grift stores that sells a bunch of bullshit supplements and I get so fucking many of these people. Like fuck off Karen I'm not manually typing in the barcode on your homeopathic snake oil, red lasers are putting out less intense "radiation" than the overhead fluorescent lighting, and they're literally just sugar pills.

These dipshits all think they know better than the entire international scientific community because some dipshit energy healing guru told them some bullshit that confirmed their own preconceived biases.

Being an "expert" means nothing tbf, and it's absolutely a good thing that ordinary people feel confident enough to tell off "professionals" (who are inherently biased in their research to follow who writes the checks). You don't need a PhD to read papers and argue, unless you're a midwit who needs the trump card of "muh piece of paper, muh W O R K".

It's totally fine and good to be critical of people with formal educations and degrees and such, but this is not the take tbh

I get where you're coming from, but the way this take is worded always rubs me the wrong way because it's exactly the same as foreign policy ghouls who spout off shit about how "wow, everyone is suddenly an expert about {COUNTRY WE WANT TO INVADE} whenever people call out the blatant bullshit and consent manufacturing. "SCIENCE" works the same way, especially considering that people who claim to be "experts" in the media are more like entertainers than people who do research.

Agree. But when we talking about expert, we talked about science community from multiple country that agree on set of concrete data that have mask is good, vaccine is good, getting virus run wild is not good. Not those expert that paid by Lockheed Martin that present fake ass data
