Its like January 6th but with truckers? There's a lot of honking or something? It sounds funny

Bunch of truckers decided to go to Ottawa to protest vaccine mandates so that they don't have trouble crossing the US border (even though they have their own mandates that the Canadian government has no control over) which just ended up turning into a general right wing "oust Trudeau" protest. They've been blocking out the downtown area for 5 days and residents are pissed bc they can't get anywhere. Police have been doing absolutely nothing as expected.

Organizers of the convoy include a guy who thinks Anglo Saxons have the strongest bloodlines and believes in the great replacement conspiracy but claims he's indigenous with no evidence whenever it's convenient so he's "not racist", a guy who loves to rant about his "crusade against Islam", and a lady who heads a far-right organization. They seem to have run off with 1 million of the 9 million bucks they raised on GoFundMe that the protesters thought would go towards supporting them during the protest.

Highlights include: Parking and pissing on war memorials, defacing a Terry Fox statue, multiple Confederate flags and swastikas being flown, protesters assaulting a homeless man and demanding food at a soup kitchen since they were "homeless in Ottawa", and a bunch of trucks getting egged by pissed residents.

A group of people have also blocked the only border crossing in Alberta that is big enough to handle truck inspections in support, thus screwing over other truckers who decided to do their job instead of joining the protest. This is blatantly illegal in due to a law introduced by Alberta's premier after indigenous people blocked a railway, but so far the cops haven't done anything besides say "we get it, you guys are getting demonized the same way we always get demonized. Pwetty pwease leave".

The police claim that enforcing even a parking ticket could blow things up, and that they have a policy of not interfering so their hands are tied. Considering they used axes, chainsaws, dogs, guns, helicopters, and explicit permission to use "as much force as necessary, including lethal force" against indigenous people protesting pipelines over the past few years, it's very clear this is a choice based on who is doing the protest.

Afaik no one's tried to like breach the gates and get into parliament, but they do intend for this to oust Trudeau and like arrest him or something.

Basically yeah, Jan 6th but truckers. Also Parliament isn't in session so it's like, janitors and clerks who are in the building if anyone is at all.

I really don't agree with why they're angry and protesting. But I gotta say, I'm surprised how little and how few people it takes to block up a bunch of cities and international borders and apparently the cops can't do jack shit about it. Lessons for the future - when we have a proper revolution, make sure the teamsters are on board and we can shut down the transportation of goods for a week or more. Literally just park like 50 semis in a few key corridors and have a bunch slow rolling through major freeways in cities, in combination with railway blockades this seems like an effective tactic.
