This is 100% based on my recollection that the vandalization of Ukrainian nazi collaborator monuments was talked about being investigated as a hate crime.
I've read a lot of court cases during my career, and that defence is fucking wild. Don't think I've ever heard anyone say something that stupid, aside from the submarine guy in Denmark who said "of course you found Semen (in my private submarine that I build and murdered someone in), I am a very hony guy."
Wonder if being politically motivated could affect charges/sentencing.
