    not sure if you read mandarin or not but i'm a complete beginner so bear with me:

    when describing the us, why do they not use 美国?

      Could you point out where you're talking about that?

      The only two instances of the US being said is

      美国

      美国政府

      Which is America and American government respectively

        in the first post:

        美万

        or something, i can't recognize the second character but it looks very similar to 万, but with a dash

          方, meaning direction. In this instance 美方 meaning "the American Side". Similarly, 甲方、乙方 are used in legal documents meaning Party A and Party B.

          Not pictured but you may also sometimes see 美帝 which means American Empire
