I've sort of been out of the news loop for the last two weeks, and to be frank, I have no idea what this Canadian truck driver story is all about. Can one of you kind souls please explain?

They've been going for a few weeks in a row now, and demonstrations in other cities are cropping up each weekend. It's genuinely hard to see how this ends as none of the levels of government are willing to use force*, the police are going all "well you should have given us more money 🤡 ", and there hasn't been time to mount a safe, organized resistance, despite the fact that most of the public is against it and the 2019 and 2020 climate and BLM marches far surpassed these idiots in numbers.
They are now blockading some of the highways in and out of Canada near Ottawa and between Detroit and Windsor, using children in some cases, and some have started protesting outside of elementary schools and threatening students (one in Winnipeg had to go into lockdown or something similar).
In some ways it feels a bit more real than Jan 6 because it's been way more permanent. I have friends in Ottawa that are hiding in their homes because they're being yelled at and sexually harassed when they go out with a mask. The Toronto police told hospital workers last weekend to not wear any identifying clothing in public, and attempted to move a bunch of them into hotels closer to the hospital.
It's bad folks. If it just peters out at this point the fallout will be pretty bad for all the chuds involved - we're talking jobs lost, arrests, even kids being taken away - but I'm worried it won't.
(*This may change with the Ontario government announcing a state of emergency today, which allows them to slap protesters with heavy fines and maybe jail time.)
