I think "FTL technology is destroying the universe" was also supposed to be plot point Mass Effect 2 was hinting towards

Wasn't that the original plot conclusion for the original games? Thought I heard once it was supposed to come down to the player realizing the reapers were destroying all spacefaring life every 50k years cus of it. The player would have had to decide between destroying the reapers and letting them kill everyone as its ending, but I think a lot of that got leaked partway through development?

Maybe that was someone speculating to me but it seems plausible seeing how much of a shit show the ending of 3 was

Uh, if I remember the episode they’re referring to correctly it’s just the space around this one planet that effected by FTL travel so the speed limit it only enforced there.

"Until we can find a way to counteract the warp field effect, the Council feels our best course is to slow the damage as much as possible. Therefore, areas of space found susceptible to warp fields will be restricted to essential travel only, and effective immediately, all Federation vessels will be limited to a speed of – Warp 5? – except in cases of extreme emergency."

    Means-tested warp field susceptibility.
