The "west as the bastion of LGBT rights" compared to the eastern (Asiatic) European dictators crushing trans rights propaganda really hits different with one of Americas largest states essentially inviting vigilantes to do whatever they like against trans people and their parents.
No the Chinese clinic is to help trans kids and is supportive of their gender identity
:che-laugh:
Edit: should clarify, I was laughing at the idea of the clinic being for supporting gender identity "and texas". Idk I need coffee. China good.
Oh I should clarify, I was laughing at the idea of the clinic being for supporting gender identity "and texas". Idk I need coffee. China good.
tbf the abbott thing is just a letter at this point, nothing legally binding as determined by the ACLU
of course this opens trans people up to widespread witch hunts, at least more so than usual :yea: but at least its not law... yet
Teachers are notably absent from that ACLU response. In 48 hours won't a bunch of them be getting slapped with misdemeanors or state felonies?
afaik its still just a letter. just because teachers werent mentioned specifically by the ACLU doesnt mean it still isnt just a letter and the ACLU just forgot to mention teachers there
but its possible that texas has already done a bill that requires mandated reporting of queer students to parents by teachers and counselors in the school. idk if theyre a state that does that or not
but because the letter exists im sure plenty of parents have already been reported to cps or whatever fraudulently and now they gotta deal with that harassment
it’s a hard ask to risk my material conditions for someone else’s kids
Sounds like you need to talk to your union specifically
Sorry. I didn't mean to ay I am a teacher, just trying to put myself in the hypothetical mindset of teachers in Texas.
Oh, then yeah. You’d want to do collective action. I don’t know the state of teachers’ unions in Texas, but if they’re shit, there’s a good chance any non-lib teachers know each other and can figure something out
Because it’s a hard ask to risk my material conditions for someone else’s kids.
Labor aristocracy
Try to have any empathy/solidarity for comrades in a different situation than you. Saying something like this completely downplays trans comrades struggles.
There are decades when nothing happens; and there are weeks where decades happen.
The last world war made the USSR possible, I'm sure there's a silver lining in all of this
*The second to last, though the last one did allow it to become a superpower
The chaotic periods in history are the ones most brimming with potential I guess.
There is having empathy in the world, but the number of people directly affected by both things is a very small group who are having a real bad time.
The very large gap between empathy and making it about you is something I don’t enjoy about it. It’s funny but also if anyone said that, it would be peak liberal bullshit.
