Interesting side effect of this being so publicized on the internet where "normal" people can see it without actively seeking it out is a lot of people are getting exposed to uncensored and unfiltered war footage for the first time. Even something as tame as people getting spooked by a plane firing rockets overhead freaks people out. Let alone the more gruesome stuff.

A lot of the strange reactions from people you otherwise wouldn't expect to care that much might be a result of trauma from seeing war for the first time.

Idk what the long term consequences of this will be.

      I'll share this again...

One thing is abundantly clear, which is that it is deeply ingrained in the American psyche that war is just a sort of thing that happens on the television.

Maybe this will shake that a little. But then again, the media bullshit is Iraq 2.0 and it seems experiencing that hasn't changed anyone's attitudes about anything.

America has become a death cult. It's pure horror-comedy to me that so many libs have literally gone mask about covid. And now that the CDC has basically said "fuck it" about masks - it will quickly become a lib norm. Also - even though most libs would never admit it openly - it's an election year and masks are a bad look for dem politicians to encourage.

Flashback to the fighter jet footage from Desert Storm where news channels broadcast video taken straight from the displays inside the cockpit, showing bomb blasts leveling buildings, but everyone just thought it was cool because it looked like a bideo bame.

      Also....

"I think it's only in a crisis that Americans see other people. It has to be an American crisis, of course. If two countries fight that do not supply the Americans with some precious commodity, then the education of the public does not take place."

"But when the dictator falls, when the oil is threatened, then you turn on the television and they tell you where the country is, what the language is, how to pronounce the names of the leaders, what the religion is all about, and maybe you can cut out recipes in the newspaper of Persian dishes."

So true, this war in Ukraine is also about materials for electric vehicles. Much as "war for oil" was the past justification. https://www.ukrinform.net/rubric-economy/3280369-maasikas-ukraine-has-deposits-of-21-raw-materials-critical-to-eu.html

I feel awful for the young people who have lived with 2 years of COVID and now see their parent’s and grandparent’s generation acting in some sort of weird hysteria over an invasion and the potential for WW3/nuclear annihilation. Those of us who are older and grew up through 9/11 Iraq War GFC and rise of social media can interpret these reactions but I don’t know how the youth possibly can. Very sad.
