Honestly this reminds me a lot of the type of downplaying of civilian casualties pulled by defenders of Israel in their war of aggression against the Palestinians.
Dozens if not hundreds of civilians have died so far, regardless of whether they could have killed 10,000 by now (or millions if they decided to use nukes) if you can’t see why the West is calling out the brutality against citizens then idk what to tell you. The US has also claimed to minimize civilian casualties throughout the War on Terror and we all know how considerate they have been... war is hell and civilians die in this type of invasion. The Russians don’t deserve props for killing less people than they could be.
I personally don’t believe he truly cares, otherwise I would assume he’d first try a number of steps falling well short of “massive invasion resulting in the likely deaths of thousands of civilians”.
I’d hesitate to be cemented on the side of Putin in this conflict before learning what his objectives truly are, which none of us can know at this point yet. While the Azov battalion is almost comically evil they aren’t the ones who have escalated this conflict to the levels Putin has. Granted if they had the capability to they probably would have but I don’t trust for a second that Putin would give a shit about them being Nazis if they weren’t anti-Russian Nazis first and foremost.
Wow, that’s very bad. Are you saying Putin’s denazification rationale for invading Ukraine is legitimate?
Thanks for this breakdown on Geithner, that’s the perfect example of a sociopath that people need to watch out for. That’s also a great way of thinking about them—obviously they all worked for the empire so they’re all highly culpable for its crimes, but those guys like Lovett (spelled it like the actor originally lol) and Rhodes don’t seem like actual sociopaths. Favreau maybe not too, I think he’s just a dork lol but you can kind of tell that the Pod Save America guys wish they had tried going further left with Obama at the time and have some regrets about that. But lots of cognitive dissonance of course. Appreciate the info, cheers!
The most frustrating part about all of this for me is the civilian deaths
Just out of curiosity who would you consider to be better than average Obama admin ghouls? I’d personally say Jon Lovitz and Ben Rhodes are 2 of the least bad ones, obviously keeping in mind the baseline we are talking about here lol
American Russian military experts like Rob Lee and Michael Kofman have been echoing that sentiment from your last paragraph. I think we will have much more clarity by the end of the week if not the next couple days on what Russia’s first stage objective is here.
It seems like Russia is very much still holding back at this state but to your point a lot of the sloppiness so far is surprising. My theory is that the special forces soldiers were expected to have killed Zelenskyy and his government by now and that not happening yet has acted as a bottleneck for the rest of the objectives. Hopefully the ceasefire talks are productive today, otherwise I think the ugliness will ramp up and consideration for civilian lives will be minimized in order for them to secure Kiev and/or take our Zelenskyy and his circle by a certain time point.
No doubt about it that Ukraine/NATO is dominating the propaganda arm of the war but to be fair Russia is the one doing the invasion. NATO/US provocation only excuses so much when the average person thinks “maybe they expanded NATO eastward because Russia is crazy enough to invade its neighbors while killing thousands of civilians in the process” without regard for the hypocrisy of US’ recent imperialistic campaigns in MENA.
Russia is like Lexi and Ukraine is like Cassie… you will see what I mean on the season 2 finale of Euphoria airing on HBO tonight at 9 PM EST
I don't think the Germans are pathetic for thinking so, no. You’re asking for a lot out of regular people seeing a nearby country invaded by its much bigger neighbor.
Tito’s vodka sales will skyrocket lol
Helmets were offered before the invasion but only made it there 2 days ago.
Germans are just pathetic
Oh wow how dare regular people be appalled at watching regular people in another country shelled in their own homes by an invading force?
I think Russia invading Ukraine changed the situation for them. They were telling US to fuck off, sending over helmets and going through with the Nordstream pipeline before Russia invaded I believe.
I feel awful for the young people who have lived with 2 years of COVID and now see their parent’s and grandparent’s generation acting in some sort of weird hysteria over an invasion and the potential for WW3/nuclear annihilation. Those of us who are older and grew up through 9/11 Iraq War GFC and rise of social media can interpret these reactions but I don’t know how the youth possibly can. Very sad.
