I really don't know. That's why I'm asking.
Before the invasion, I was quite aware of plenty of "Putin is a badass, he gets shit done, he's riding a bear" fawning over yet another substitute strongman while :trump-anguish: is (temporarily, perhaps) deflated in relevance to them. I am unfortunately genetically related to a number of people that have these exact sentiments, so it isn't just very online people being edgy to trigger the libs.
I know that the United States is full of very credulous and impressionable consumer herd animals by design. What I'm wondering about is whether this current invasion and the media-wide propaganda blitz will have lasting effect on the "Putin gets shit done" sort of Russia-admiring chuds, or whether they will wake up tomorrow and completely forget about that honeymoon period, like the ever-shifting perceived enemies within a certain novel that they cite but also grossly misunderstand. :1984:
So I was talking to some reactionary coworkers today, and it blew my fucking mind they were word for word doing leftist talking points like "it's hypocrisy that the Feds can flip the fuck out about having a hostile nuclear power at our doorstep with the Cuba Missile Crisis, but bitch and moan about how they can't put nukes in Ukraine on Russia's doorstep"
And the whole Neo-nazi problem in Ukraine too, like they were wholesale balking at the shit they do and were talking about how the feds were funding and training them.
My brain fuckin hurled at the topsy turvy world I just experienced :ohnoes:
my chud coworkers think this is the fault of hunter Biden somehow, and rail against :biden-troll: for not nuking Russia or sending troops
Oh yeah my hogs talked about hunter too, but it was something along the lines of "its proof that ukraine's a puppet state to our oligarchs"
I wish my hogs were at least that intelligent :deeper-sadness:
I'm sure you can feed them slop subtly and they'll start surprising you too
I don't know but they sure as fuck aren't concerned with cancel culture right now. Russia's people have been kicked off OnlyFans, Twitch, and Youtube. There is probably more including financial services. Joe Rogan gets tweeted at for saying COVID is actually ghosts in your blood cells and they act like it's 1984. They talk about how much power these tech companies have and how it needs to be curbed. Yet here those companies are, closing off entire countries at the behest of the US government (though the companies could do it on their own anytime). Nothing. Not a peep.
I don't think they'll drop the cancel culture stuff. It's just more apparent how much of it is for show.
The sheer propaganda saturation and the adaptive conditioning that makes a staggering majority of the population nod along to it and only concern themselves with safe culture war bullshit that never targets or threatens the ruling class is really something.
I have heard this from a literal chud "Putin is a radical commie who wants to bring USSR back by conquering Ukraine". The same loser was the one who said that Afghans are barbarians and they deserve to be exploited.
Yeah and this is someone who thinks the govt is trying to control people by forcing them to wear mask and get vaccines. So there is literally no coherent thinking with chuds.
Or maybe war is a unifying point for both.
What will the Russian invasion of Ukraine change, if anything, regarding the ideological and political sentiments of GOP chuds?
The drums of war are beating louder and louder, and patriotic fervor is sweeping across both parties. Politics in the near term are about to descend to record levels of lobotomization. We are going to see a pissing contest between both parties about national loyalty, militarism, and the extents they will take to defend America's position. They will attack each other about being too soft-handed about the crisis, and they will root out anybody within their ranks who stands accused of the same.
Basically, what I expect to see among the Republicans is exactly what we see happening between the Democrats and the left. Increasing demands of loyalty, and the isolation of any heterodox factions and media outlets. The Republican's media institutions tend to be much more centralized and economically aligned than the Democrats though. Every right-wing writer and TV host is literally a grifter who will say whatever they're paid to. This always gives them the upper hand on coordinated messaging and steering the party line.
The conflict will not really change, but reinforce, the ideological sentiments. What's happening in Ukraine and the western media narrative related to it gives them a major enemy, an evil empire, to focus on. It strips a good deal of what might be a margainal leftist sentiment from liberals, and helps bind the liberals to a united cause with the GOP, giving them an 'in' to draw them further towards rightward ideology. Liberals may come to want a strong man because only a strong man who 'gets things done' can counter the same. A fight fire with fire sort of attitude. In the upcoming midterm elections, should the conflict stretch on that long, I suspect the DNC will try to convince others they can handle the conflict 'smartly'. But the GOP will try to convince that they can win the conflict.
they are already incoherent and hold contradictory positions, I don't think reality matters
They are manly men that eat meat with every meal and constantly fantasize about murdering those different than themselves, but are also so fragile that going to the store and buying "the wife" some tampons could shatter them.
Putin's callousness and cruelty is the flavor they enjoy, without any of the uncomfortable or upsetting ideological baggage. Putin's Russia legalized wifebeating and marital rape and commits hate crimes against LGBT+ people as a matter of public policy.
They’ve always liked Putin. I find it strange because Putin is open about his callousness and cruelty yet they love it
do you like, not understand US politics?
You have to understand that contradictions literally do not matter to these people. Simultaneously many of them don’t care because isolationism, and also Trump would have stopped that because he’s a chad alpha who would beat the evil Russians.
Biden is president and siding against russia so they'll side with russia even harder
