I could really use more Armored Core. The music alone (in the later games anyway) was very memorable.

Edit: I stopped looking for signs of a new Armored Core years ago. If there's going to be a new one, AND it isn't some mobile/gacha "live service" garbage fire, I'm very happy.

Is that so? I gave up hope a long time ago, but that's great news!

Yessir! I don't know details, but I have a clear recollection of reading an article from Fromsoft a few days ago saying they are actively working on a new AC. Can google it if you dont want to.

I hope it isn’t some mobile/gacha “live service” garbage fire. If it isn't, I'll be very happy. Otherwise, that'd break my heart.

I dunno if I should delete this thread with relief or keep it up in case some Armored Core fan that gave up hope catches wind of it.

The first word is "rumor" there.

      Still:

"According to that poster, the survey included details about the new Armored Core’s setting and story, which center around “an unknown substance” called Melange “that could dramatically advance human society.” A supposed story description reads:

In the past, this substance caused a cosmic catastrophe on planet Bashtar that engulfed the surrounding star systems, and eventually its very existence was lost. Decades later, the Melange reaction was confirmed again on planet Bashtar. In search the unknown substance that should have been lost, various speculations began to swirl. Various parties are getting involved; the government, corporations, cultists, and known mercenaries … The protagonist is one of them."

I'm also a big Frank Herbert fan so I'll be quite amused if that rumor is true.

Dude yes. Also I was disappointed with 5/ Verdict Day, so I'd love another entry in the series that I really vibe with. I really hope they don't bring it back as some goddamn soulslike. I've heard people talk about how they "should" bring it back with smaller scale power-armor to facilitate dicksouls bullshit, and I'm like "have you fuckers polluted enough franchises with unsuitable soulslike mechanics?"

It would really suck to hear the words "battle royale," "gacha," "live service," "crypto," or "play to earn" tied to it.

Armored Core as a Battle Royale Gacha Live Service, playable only on smartphones. Prerder to get 500 Armored Cores (the premium currency which has a blockchain for no reason) and one SR Battle Box absolutely free!

Also all the Armored Cores are now squeaky dubiously-age-coded waifus that squeal about how they fight for senpai. :pathetic:

Any crypto bullshit means I basically stop supporting a developer/ publisher entirely, so that would be worse, yeah.

Also I was disappointed with 5/ Verdict Day

tbh all the problems with 5/VD started showing in 4/FA, on top of 5/VD itself trying to be "slower" without realizing that the core of AC fans just wanted more 3rd gen (3, Silent Line, Nexus, Last Raven) that just wasn't as hideously balanced. 5/VD having a heavy multiplayer focus didn't help anything either.

I'm playing through FA again and i'm just feeling all the dumbing down from 3rd to 4th gen, no real penalties for emptying your energy bar, primal armor is just a rebranded heat mechanic that was from 3rd gen and is still just a "don't get hit in quick succession lol" mechanic, quick boosting is just a 'hit E to rocket jump' that was not worth losing all the depth from 3rd gen movement, oh and because of how the gameplay is designed you have to use regular twin stick shooter controls to get anywhere which also makes 4/FA the first AC that a wider base 'could play'.

edit: And yes, it frustrates me to no end whenever someone thinks the controls for AC before 4 are bad. Like I feel that anyone who does so just didn't try to learn just because it doesn't control like the Adventures of John Halo and Joe Chief Building Inspectors.

ngl i though soulsborne games were just a genre. didn't know its the same company. i get they make good games, but i didnt like dark souls (3), and knowing its by the same company i guess i wont like elden ring either? my main issue was with the camera tbh. seemed like fights were more against the camera than the boss lol

Fromsoftware is a really small development team so they can only really work on one high quality game at a time. They have long since departed their old development model of shoveling out lots of smaller more rough experiences at the same time.

Although elden ring was a long ass development maybe the team is sick of souls games for now and they'll pivot back to their other IP for a bit.
