If the entire machine that pushed this pro-ukraine shit and all its propaganda and rehabilitating of nazis had been turned towards covid then there'd be no problem. You don't really need mandates, you just need the system to actually make an effort to get people to do it. Proper public propaganda to spread a positive collective message and effort to fight the virus together would work.
Only a half-hearted effort was ever put into stopping covid. I can't see how mandates can get anywhere, and anywhere with the political conditions to make mandates happen has the political conditions to make the better method happen anyway.

Even the best of us miss. Regardless, shit about 'education' campaigns or anything similar is usually paternalistic liberal bullshit. There's probably something productive to be said, but I always roll my eyes when New Zealand politicians are like 'we should give Maori people education campaigns about smoking' or some dumb shit like that.

It's the pragmatic route at this point. You're not going to convince people to reverse their antivaxx stance at this point. But you can make masks mandatory and do all the other shit because only the most far gone and unhinged people are fighting those.

Yes the anti-mask (because they're vaxxed and want to just ignore it now) vs the anti-both crowd are two very different groups.
The former can probably be bullied into compliance because they're liberals. The latter are beyond reason and might shoot someone over a vaxx mandate.
