You know the SWAT captain, aka a professional murderer for the state wanted some more of that consequence free murdering. If the timeline is as they say that he left the screening room spoke with a manager (who likely told him off) and then went back to sit exactly behind that same - in his eyes annoying - person while carrying a pistol he deserves to spend the rest of his life in prison (as long as we talk real existing USA) as he should be aware of the dangers of firing pistols in close quarters with other people attending, not only the risk of serious bodily harm (and he did actually shot the finger of someone uninvolved), the assault on the peoples ears etc. etc.
Furthermore it is obvious that he had his hand at his gun when returning inside the theater and was premeditating that killing. He did shoot long enough after popcorn hit his face to notice that and I don't buy that instinct defense at all - which wouldn't hold any weight anyhow cause there were plenty of better seats available. This was pure and simple a cop wanting power. People arguing "he could've falled!" in youtube ignore that he was seating in a cushy movie seat, there was no risk of falling whatsoever. ACAB.
The irony is that Reeves could have gone out to his car, got his gun, came back into the theater, continued to escalate the situation until he had an excuse to shoot Oulson, and there's a really good chance that Reeves would have still gotten away with murder.
