It's a lie. Fascism's always about lies, and fascist apologia is the same.
Hitler killed plenty of "ethnic" Germans. There wasn't much to distinguish German Jews from non-Jewish Germans in public perception until the nazis had their most convenient scapegoat.
Hitler also killed plenty of "ethnic" German communists, socialists, trade unionists, and much more.
