my dad got this multipack of weird ass beers and earlier I had an IPA from the pack that was alright (although I'm not usually a fan of IPAs), and so I grabbed another can of the same color except this one turned out to be "pink guava gose". this shit is fuckin whack, I'm trying to keep an open mind but this beer isn't just bitter, its fucking sour. this shit tastes like you poked a hole in a grapefruit and filled it with miller high life, then let it rot in a field for a few weeks. forcing myself to drink all of it in case its an acquired taste but my stomach feels like it might stage a mutiny at any moment and I'm only halfway through.
I mean, goses are sours yeah, just with salt and cardamom typically. Sounds like you've never had a sour beer before, but they've been on the NA market pretty consistently for the past ten years.
Sours are a good beer type, but the problem is because they work well with fruit they've basically just become the juicy beer for people who don't like beer. I don't typically drink fruit sours if I can avoid it, unless it's something like a lime sour.
But yeah I like a good gose every now and then for sure.
yeah i usually stick to munich lager or spotted cow. not the type to stray too far from my comfort zone on a regular basis.
Yeah I can see why it would be a surprise if you didn't know sour was even a potential flavour profile
Pipeworks Brewing used to do a great salted cucumber gose
I like weird beers, so yeah, gose are pretty good of you're in the mood for a sour and salty beer
Actually pretty refreshing on warm days
I love gose beer. Sour and salty. Usually fruity.
But i like lots of weird beers (but not really IPAs).
If you’re not a fan of sour beers in general you probably won’t like gose beers.
reading the wikipedia article, maybe the issue is that i'm drinking it cold. maybe i'll let the rest warm up to room temp
Warm fermented doesn’t mean you should drink it warm. It means the temperature at which they ferment it is warmer than other types of beers.
if you have never ventured much or tried sour beer which seems to be the case, i think guava is probably not the best starting point. i would recommend grabbing something like dogfish head seaquencher to give it a more fair shot. that one is sort of gose-like in construction, but the lime flavor makes the sourness much less surprising to the palate. sour beers tend to be sour because of the wild yeasts used to ferment them. the most wildly sour kind is something like the farmhouse style sours jolly pumpkin makes that don't have any fruit added.
I like both sours and IPAs a lot but drinking one while expecting the other would brainfuck me a bit like when you take a swig of water expecting soda or whatever.
100% agreed. I like a lot of beers and I've never had a gose that I didn't immediately regret.
Yeah I like Gose and sour ales. I also like eating lemons straight so you could say I have a high sour tolerance.
To counter all the hipster beer nerds in this thread, that sounds gross and you should puke in your dad's kitchen sink to drive the point home. The only IPA I've ever enjoyed tastes nothing like an IPA. If you can find this near you I highly recommend it, tastes like a dream.

I always have antacids on hand when drinking sours, I love 'em but they can upset your tummy on a bad day
Not a big fan of sours, but I like gose generally; the salt makes a lot of difference
