Dude supposedly fought IS alongside the PKK. He might have been deluded into fighting a losing battle against a real army for the wrong reasons, but I think he was earnest and not an uncool guy.
He had an interview on Quebec television where he was saying that he was kinda sad because he was going to have to kill some good white christian folks.
I know he fought for the PKK but i remember the pisspiggrandad interview where he was saying that most volounteers were communists, but they also had their share of good ol' cow-boys comin to kill brown ter'rist and all.
Yeah, that too. Figures you'd get the whole batch where killing people is concerned.
Guess I was just trying to rationalize not wanting to laugh at the guy. It feels wrong. The whole situation (NATO vets John-Wayning their way into a war with an actual army and getting pummeled) is pretty absurd, almost comedic. But the specifics? I just find them tragic.
I guess it's got to do with what's happening behind the troop and why he's doing the killing. That was my impression. He wasn't a cool guy, either, just not uncool. One of many middle-aged Americans swallowed by ennui and meaninglessness who might have (erroneously and for the wrong reasons) thought he could make a difference by doing the one thing he knows.
