Honestly this part tickled me more: The co-conspirators allegedly tried to “interfere with federal elections” by orchestrating a campaign to undermine the US congressional candidacy of a military veteran who was once a leader of the 1989 pro-democracy demonstrations in Beijing. Because as far as I know, that was the most famous protest in Chinese history, at least since the establishment of the PRC.
