I think that would break too many right wingers in half. They may be criminally stupid, but even they would be able to sense a heel-turn of that caliber, provided that the variant isn't causing nuclear-apocalypse-level of deaths.
Honestly, from what we've seen from the chuds so far, what would the deadly-ness level need to increase before they start acting that way? Because if this turns into the Spanish Flu, and kills millions upon millions, then surely something will change, but I wonder if there is an equillibrium between the two.
