This is the closest take, because thinking that people are going to voluntarily stop driving is just silly. Gas prices could be sky high and people will find a way. It's gonna take physical world-on-fire hurdles to put an end to independent driving... and even then.

NICE name, I was thinking maybe we would just end up in a situation where gas gets expensive so people have to use our shitty Public transport and then we just end up with workplace apartments that make commuting a thing of the past. But in the worst way possible naturaly

lol thanks. Nah, what'll happen is that we'll end up with mad max versions of UberPool; Big SUV rolling coal motherfuckers or Cybertruck drivers asking for five stars for getting you through the wasteland with minimal casualties. Pretty sure that might another Stephenson scenario. Fall: Or Dodge in Hell had a similar reality. Hate how prophetic he is while still subscribing to the ideologies that will take us there.

The roads will crumble, the asphalt will melt, and the libs will tell you to buy a cybertruck. Meanwhile, Uber will launch a carpool app to get the proles to work (the carpools will be owned by your boss and you will have money taken out of your paycheck to pay for it). The US will stumble backwards into buses as they become an economic necessity, but this will somehow be turned into an excuse to tear up train tracks and put in dedicated privately owned highways. A Cyberbus will burst into flames and trap the passengers inside itself with bulletproof glass every month, but Muskophiles will use misleading statistics to "prove" that it's actually the safest mode of transit ever made.
