You're good!! I'm just glad people in here are talking about one piece. There's alot of gamer nerds on here but not near enough manga nerds. We gotta boost these numbers up on the site. They gave the boy Luffy looney tunes powers Im all for it! I know some people might not be happy with this but one piece has always been goofy and silly. While yes Luffy is technically a chosen one type I think it works well for one piece. Oda has been talking about inherited will since the beginning. We as the reader just assumed the legacy he was carrying was Gol d Rogers and not y'know a mythical legend
Especially because One Piece works so well through a leftist lens!
In the last chapter discussion we talked about how we hoped this wouldn't be a Naruto space jesus thing, so I really love the way Oda did this because it works so well thematically where Luffy's power is literally carrying on the legacy of freedom, the same way he carries his inspiration from Roger and Shanks

Wild, probably very wrong speculation ahead
So, I read two independent translations of this chapter and they both agreed that the Gorousei described Luffy's power as "the most ridiculous in the world". Not strongest or most powerful, but "ridiculous". So, during the fight with Kaido it seemed to me that the style of the chapter changed veye slightly, with more "funny" effects like the eyes that weren't used in the last chapters (please tell if I'm wrong about that, going on memory here), but also Luffy blocked Kaido's breath using the floor, when kaido can easily drill the floor with his breath.
My idea is that maybe, since Nika is portraied as being an irreverent, liberator god that brings joy to people, maybe Nika's fruit power is that reality anf phisics itself are changed to be more "cartoony" around the user. This also would go with Gorousei's comment that "(their power) is limited only by their imagination"
The power is actually Space Jam
Oda has done cartoony reactions as gags before, but I don't think in the same way as this chapter. If your idea is how it works, Luffy can absolutely beat Blackbeard now

The type of fruit that turns the user into an animal has a "normal" and "mythical" variation, basically there's one per species and a variation based on a legendary animal. So this would be the mythical version of Chopper's fruit
If you didn't like the anime and can stomach reading, I highly recommend the manga. My only exposure for a while was the anime which I thought sucked and then when I went through the manga I changed my tune
Saw the transcript the other day and glad to finally see it drawn but yeah zoan user this whole time. The whole getting up from defeat I think was foreshadowed back with the guards in imperial down getting up right after being k.oed.
Yeah it's a cool way to explain Luffy's resiliency while also really changing up the implications of his abilities
Dislike the retcon (devil fruit users instinctually know the name of their fruit) but the chapter was good anyway (Orochi "dying" to bad wording was dope, but I hate how we're gonna geta 50 chapter cover story with him and kanjuro recovering in the burn ward)

I don't mind waiting a couple days for the discussion thread since I always read the official release, but I'm not sure about everyone else. I'll try posting this week's on Sunday around the official release unless someone beats me to it with the fan scans
I mean the spoiler is something I was kind of worried about. Not the specifics, but the idea that Luffy is more important or more connected to things than already established. That was one of my least favorite parts of Naruto and Bleach, and while I think One Piece is better than they ever were, it's still not something I'm a fan of.
