I met this person, (let's call them Austen) through my "bible study group" (actually a pop pagan group), and when I found out Austen is a leftist, we hit it off quite well. We've been together for around a month, but we do have our differences, which I can respect. Will our differences be a problem?

Yeah, same boat. OP, you'll probably be just fine unless the person in question is an "anarchist" like a twitter anarchist. But after a month you've probably already felt them out enough to know they're cool.
