I liked it, I'm glad I only borrowed it from my local library though instead of buying it. I played through the original when I was a kid so there was definitely some nostalgia there. The dialogue can be pretty painfully cringey - it's probably okay for a kid or teen or whatever but as an adult I groaned a lot (like, I loved Tales of Symphonia as a kid, I got my gamecube out and booted it up and got through about 2 hours before I had to put it away lol). If you can, borrow it from your library and play it a bit and decide if you like it or not. If you can't handle the anime cringe within the first 3 or 4 hours, well, it ain't getting any better on that front. I don't think the combat or skill stuff will be so appealing that you should play it despite the story, so unless you're into it, forget it and just read a synopsis if you simply MUST know what happens.
