Over 180,000 US residents have died of covid since Biden’s December 16th threat of “a winter of severe illness and death — if you’re unvaccinated…”

According to CDC data, 41% of January covid deaths were among fully vaccinated people

So far the second omicron wave in England is killing more people than the first, so we can probably expect round two in the US to be worse. These evil motherfuckers actually thought getting everyone infected would make the disease "mild".

I don't get it honestly. How does a disease which is worse for people with poor lung health, which causes chronic lung damage in most of the infected, and which you can get repeatedly, sound like one where you can do a nationwide chicken pox party to solve?

It doesn't matter if it makes sense, it only matters if it can be used to restore rent-seeking business interests, i.e. get back to work and buy shit.

I'm sure they consulted a team of experts and then went with the advice of some asshole doctor who told them we can solve it by doing nothing. Science.

This is exactly what would happen if evolution stopped being a thing. We are lucky that a more deadly version hasn't evolved yet, Delta was IIRC the most deadly yet.

I mean it's still a large reduction in your chance of dying. I think around 67% of the USA is fully vaccinated and 33% not. Yet 41% of deaths are vaccinated and 59% not. So it's still a reduction in death, just no where near as large as before. I think it's a 70% reduction in your chance of dying, compared to 95+% previously.

Also shows how important boosters are now at the moment.

the percentage of breakthrough deaths went from 3.1% in March 2021 to 21% in September 2021 to 46% this March

most of the people who got a "full" regimen of two shots got them almost a year ago in Spring-Summer of 2021, and immunity from either infection or vaccination tapers off after between three to six months

basically, the vaccine is highly effective against the virus it was designed for, but it wears off just like natural immunity, and is significantly less effective against newer variants like Delta and Omicron

"Fully vaccinated" is considered 2 shots by the CDC, 3 shots is fully vaccinated + booster. I'd also hazard a guess that the reason vaccinated deaths are proportionately increasing among death is because everyone who was unvaccinated has already died.

in addition to the other response, we're coming in the 3-6 month range on the boosters where their effectiveness wanes and I doubt the government will pay for 4th or 5th shots.
