very, very, unpleasant rape/torture scene, best skipped. gratuitous and my only explaination for it being the way it is Male Gaze
also the sex scenes are very Male Gaze-y and additionally gratuitous
the good things:
amazing costumes and set design. its straight up the 17th century, i couldn't find any problems but im not a reenactor (the largest phylum of nerd)
fantastic treatment of church theater. a lot of media has church folk as credulous fools drinking the koolaid but this films got some shrewd motherfuckers. in fact thats probably what i liked the most, the extremely blurry lines between performance, politics and faith. :chefs-kiss: very few films scratch this itch
also its a gay convent drama what do i gotta tell you theres premium horny nun forbidden fruit shit up in this movie.
watch it. skip the torture scene. hang the patriarchy
