I own and rent out several duplexes in my home town. It is my primary source of income, though I do have a part time job for health insurance.

Wow. Only two sentences in and they already deserve to get ground into a fine paste.

I'd expect a Slate landlord article to paint them a bit more sympathetically, but maybe this is just to get those sweet, sweet clicks.

What killed me was the, "check your local laws before kicking this woman who can't even afford cheap rent out on the street" line.

The slate advice givers are surprisingly good imo.

I've read the Slate advice column for years, weirdly. I must say, probably the best advice column I've ever read. Not only for the showcase of the dregs of society, but occasionally they have what feels like good, genuine advice.

Every other one I read is a rotating answer of some compromise, discuss it, go to therapy, something along these lines. Slate has occasionally said things like, "yeah, just never mention this again to anyone," (also a really weird letter).

There are a few people that will write for it, some better than others.

damn capitalism really do be reducing all that was previously sacred to mere monetary transactions
