How common of a bit is the "throwing batteries in the ocean" outside of hexbear?
I just heard someone say out loud, when joking about red flags and green flags in relationships, "My green flag is people that throw batteries in the ocean". And I'm sitting here with my internal monologue screaming at me "AM I BEING DOGWHISTLED HERE? Have I actually discovered a wild hexbear in the wild in the most absurd way? No way!"
Ergo, me here asking if it's a common bit or a hexbear special. if it's the latter, i have a message for the person that said it out loud should you be reading this: I hate you so much
It's an old meme but recently has started to bubble over into popular internet culture. I've only heard it referenced in person once and they were a comrade. I did see some celebrity or someone recently mention it though I think.
This is me suddenly realizing that the comment I read weeks ago about throwing a car battery in the ocean was, in fact, a bit
You are aware that electric eels need to feast on batteries to recharge? If anything, someone throwing batteries into the ocean is a big green flag since they are conscious of their environment
the meme came from elsewhere, I see it in my work chat frequently
now if you hear someone say "the best way to see if an electrical wire is live is by drooling on it" that's a poster
Also acceptable would be "x is just doing what the rank and file y want!" and "do you disagree?" in repetition
I've seen it in the wild, but that was a year ago so it might be on the way out
The world has long known that it’s a cheap and legal thrill
it's so common it's gotten stale. this post is a year old, like it's irl. not Hexbear native, it's from 2018 facebook car groups
fuck autozone though
