Capitalism, well known for optimizing human values, which is why the world is dying and Warren Buffett is investing in Chevron. Definitely right about individuals being quantified in $$ though. Wonder why then that healthy living and planet aren't "quantified" :thinking-about-it:

"Peddling tobacco is wrong, so let's stick with the system that made peddling tobacco a very normal thing. I can fix it"

Guy at the bottom is going to find himself looking up utility monster on Wikipedia soon

I'm sure capitalists will all collectively decide to take into account the negative externalities they've intentionally ignored for centuries before climate catastrophe

really smart people post on twitter

Once the calculations are done, there will be no stopping these trailblazing capitalists. Why, Exxon even had quantifiable information in regards to climate change decades ago, and look at all the changes they've made for the betterment of civilization since then!

I love that these nerds are like “capitalism will bring robust solutions” but also think you’re not allowed to ever change laws. They really just mean capitalists when they say capitalism. They imagine the abstracted algorithm running their lives- no different than the feudal serf imagined God - but the reality is they mean “ I just want some rich fuck to run my life I am completely powerless to act in the world I am a worm.” No idea of action on their own behalf, no imagination of autonomy. Fucking liberals

ask them if they think it's moral to profit on selling millions of people products that actively kill them and watch them squirm

they will universally hide behind the surgeon-general warnings that for example the tobacco industry fought tooth and nail against instituting for literal decades as their last resort

Every capitalist who acknowledges climate change: "I know it's bad, but if I were to change what i'm doing, in the grand scheme of things, won't have an impact."

Then probably some shit about how they'd have to keep driving their current car instead of a new Tesla
