lol it's completely ridiculous how often birds poop. they just ditch every tiny amount of food they've digested immediately to reduce their weight when flying, so they poop pretty much nonstop, just thousands upon thousands of the tiniest little shits. it's one reason i don't keep birds anymore, but if they don't poop on my stuff it's honestly kinda endearing, it's as if they're flipping the entire world off nonstop by being such aggressive shitters

iirc birds have pretty strong necks, the worst thing that could happen when they bang into shit is concussions/internal bleeding, so really just giving them a safe space to chill out like that is the best you can do without going full throwing them into a box and speeding to the vet

looks like a black headed grosbeak to me tbh

from my experience they can need up to a few hours of rest before they fly again
so i wouldnt overreact if a bird looks stunned or hurt after hitting a window

giving them a bowl of water and some unseasoned nuts is definitely a great move

From the picture he looks like he'll be totally fine, he isn't even fluffed up the way birds get when they're scared. One thing is his water dish is way to big. If he's having trouble staying steady he could fall in and not be able to get out. I recommend a really shallow dish, like not more then an inch deep of water and with a very small lip.

Okay. Good call. He hasn't gone for the water or seeds, but I'll make the change in a few minutes so I don't spook him too much.

      Thank you!

Just made me think of the hilariously deranged post where someone advocated for putting traps in parks to catch geese for homeless people.

They hit my window and land on the porch so I move a chair over them so they're out of the sun and unseen by predators.

Then I don't pressure them because they'll hurt themselves.

They fly away when they're ready. Happens all the time.
