He ran as a peace candidate, and was against banning the Russian language, and was in favor of leaving Donbass alone, and bringing the Civil War to an end, but it became very clear after he won who was really in charge. His entire mood changed. He banned 11 left opposition parties but allowed Svoboda and Right sector to stay. He was wishy washy on the Banderists when interviewed saying "they are what they are" and "Bandera to some is a hero. that's normal. that's cool." A right sector leader, Dmitro Korchynsky was interviewed saying "I was disappointed the Ukrainian people elected a jew. But I quickly realized he was unprincipled and willing to work with us."
