They did OK during the last cold war, but that was with a really high defense budget, and compulsory service (male only at that time). Pretty much all swedish men I know who are older millennial, Xer or boomer, spent 10 months to a year at 18 years old running around the woods, getting yelled at by career officers, digging foxholes and eating pea soup out of tins in a tent in the rain.

Anyway, if it comes to that, I'd rather bring back compulsory communal pea soup consumption for able-bodied people (of any gender) rather than fucken nato membership. I don't live in sweden anymore but I don't feel like moving back there when I hear about shit like this. Have to figure out voting by mail so I can vote V next election I guess.
