Weird how all the sources like the "Southern Mongolian Human Rights Information Center" are all opaque organizations based out of the United States.
I think there are hundreds of protests in China every day that no one cares about. We should try to learn as much as possible about the issue here instead of lapping up the imperialist narrative or blindly defending China out of principle.
Isn't it due to difficulty of using the old script for Mongolian? Not even Mongolia uses it, right?
It sounds a lot less brutal than, say, the Canadian program of cultural assimilation, but I still question the practical utility. Linguistic homogeneity seems like a global inevitability anyway, so why make things more painful?
I honestly don't know enough. I do know the strength of learning Mandarin as a common language is powerful. However, I absolutely understand why people are wanting to preserve their own language. I feel like this is probably a classic case of the Western media propagandizing and the inner Mongolians and CPC can probably solve it on their own.
Yeah this is not happening, they just changed like 3 textbooks to Chinese language. Mongolian is still taught from primary school onward. The source is literally "Voice of America:Chinese"
