Journalists work to gain "access" to sources that will never respect them. Sources that couldn't possibly provide any semblance of real journalism. And of course if any journalist did use their access to try and do something revealing they'd lose it immediately. A true journalist would be fine with this. Somehow get close to someone important and when given an opportunity, like have lunch with a powerful man, they would try and uncover something. But inwestern journalism the goal is not revelation but the Access itself.
