Resources For Understanding The War Beyond The Bulletins
Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map, who is an independent youtuber with a mostly neutral viewpoint.
Moon of Alabama, which tends to have good analysis (though also a couple bad takes here and there)
Understanding War and the Saker: neo-conservative sources but their reporting of the war (so far) seems to line up with reality better than most liberal sources.
Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict and, unlike most western analysts, has some degree of understanding on how war works. He is a reactionary, however.
On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent journalist reporting in the Ukrainian warzones.
Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.
Yesterday's discussion post.
They probably should have launched this invasion 8 years ago.
Maybe, but the situation was far different. China wasn't as important and powerful as it is today, the multipolar world hedging wouldn't be very realistic then. Russia also did not posses some of the key weapons that give them the edge right now mainly the Kinzhal entered service in 2017.
The Russian economy was also far more vulnerable to sanctions. They're taking a massive hit to their GDP right now, but eight years ago the sanctions probably would have succeeded in causing hyperinflation and collapsing their banking system.
I get why you say that, but the key weapons stuff also applies to the Ukrainian Military, which was substantially weaker in 2014-2015. It had a lack of drones and missiles, alongside rather tepid western support. The Russians would have also had access to a more experienced cadre of officers from the Donbass, many of which were killed in the 8 year period between the conflicts flaring up. Although tbh my friend would have been on the frontlines and would have died if the war escalated in 2014 so maybe it’s good it didn’t happen like that.
while we are doing hypothetical, someone should have [] the US before they [], so and so years ago
Stalin shouldn't have stopped at Berlin.
