It's so crazy how much ideological astroturfing reddit has and people fall for it. Also lol @ working several jobs for $2400 a month = lower middle class.

In my experience, where I live it is not feasible at all... I'm into cars and all I've driven are beaters although not to that extent. I helped my mate buy a car for ~3k and even that took a ton of effort to organize because theres so many people that waste your time. From 0-1000 in particular, every post is actually advertising a down payment or monthly payment. I checked out a car that said 78k miles, whoops they forgot the two! It's 278k miles, haha. I checked craigslist before I posted just out of curiosity and the only car under 1k in 20 miles from me that isnt a straight piped project car, needs transmission /engine work or is a rolling shell is a 98 ram 1500, which fits in with my gas thing. If you're mechanically inclined and willing to churn through a ton of shitty ads, there are absolutely deals out there but the average person cannot spot them.

I didn't mention uber/lyft because I know those have restrictions on years and mileage or whatever.

And I just brought this up because this is something I have experience with and thought was funny. I'm just here to waste time lol

Just adding that if you're in the upper Midwest/New England salt belt the only thing you'll find in that range is 15 years old and the frame is about to turn to dust.

I had a truck that nearly escaped with it's life as it came with me to the desert. That fell through and it returned to the salt belt and was sold off a couple years later.

Yeah, the only way to get a decent car that cheap is to know someone personally who is trying to get rid of one. I sold my Accord to a friend for $500 and it lasted them a year (would have lasted longer, but they never changed the fucking oil). Those aren't deals you find on Auto Trader ™ unless you're financing at an insanely high interest rate.
