As Mr O’Rourke continued to chastise the governor, another man on stage called him a “sick son of a b****” who would “come to a deal like this to make a political issue.”

Nothing in this country is ever political nor should it be :grillman:

He's actually not entirely wrong on that one. Gun restrictions in America over the past 100 years have largely involved a compliant public handing over their high capacity magazines or whatever once the restriction is put into place. Shootouts involving cops seizing illegal arms are quite rare and usually huge national stories, like Waco or Ruby Ridge or something.

Complete seizure of all guns though would probably be different yeah. Can't imagine that happening.

I gotta say I do think the "Are those plates level 4" jokes are funny, because fuck the BATFE. Hating on the ATF is the only real horseshoe theory.

The Turner Diaries is about the federal government trying to confiscate guns and it leads to a race war and then an ethnostate where women are slaves. It's literally their plan.

I've read the Turner Diaries and a central part of the white nationalists' plan operates on the assumption black soldiers are inherently less effective than white soldiers. Also that white fascist soldiers would be perfectly willing to do suicide bombings.

it's not exactly the most bulletproof plan in the world, which is why white nationalists here are doing their plan with money and privatization instead

Has anyone actually handed over their guns, though? No red state has ever tried serious restrictions, and the only places that are really disarmed are Californian cities and the Coptocracy of New York City. Even Chicago still has a lot of guns. Everyone else is strapped to the fucking gills. There are red states that have laws on the books preventing local authorities from cooperating with the feds on anything related to firearms.

Like, in good faith; Do you know of any cases where there has been meaningful, observable compliance with gun control legislation?

I'd say most of America complies with gun control legislation and when they don't, they loophole it. Most of what I know of is in California and New York though, like the Mulford Act. The gun control act of 1968 also completely banned mail-order firearms, which is still in place and there's been no serious legal or public attempt to overturn it. Also FOPA in 1986 involved a whole lot of gun owners voluntarily registering their machine guns, registering some hundreds of thousands of them.

This isn't to say gun control legislation works or America should attempt more "draconian" gun laws. I just think Americans are by and large feckless cowards, especially the NRA libertarian types. Most gun owners here use them as toys and don't beef with the law. They're allowed to have guns because of their compliance, not because feds are afraid of them.

I own a pistol by the way, it's hopefully a deterrent against pigs and fascists

When they outlawed bump stocks, multiple police departments reported that no one showed up to turn it in
