Title; I've been asked by a progressive lib I know for some "neutral" sources on the news. Obviously no such thing exists, but what can I throw his way that won't make him balk? Ideally stuff with a minimum of problematic shit that needs to be explained away, we don't have a long-standing or ongoing relationship so I would prefer it to stand on its own.
ETA: Thanks for the help everyone, I sent him a nice-sized list to peruse, so here's hopin' those seeds sprout.
I don't know if you could find an actual news source that would fit his definition of neutrality, but the Citations Needed podcast might be a decent intro to critiquing the news and that whole idea, and it's dry and straightforward enough to maybe lure in a lib.
This is a great suggestion, thank you. :) I'm not sure how he feels on podcasts but it's going on the list regardless.
their parent org, FAIR, publishes good critiques of specific news narratives, and i'm surprised they don't get more links
Another excellent suggestion that totally fled my brain when he asked. Also going on the list, thank you. :soviet-heart:
I mean the majority report is good daily news hosted by a socdem who employs a communist and has many communist guests on the show
It's an intentional pipeline that doesn't start off like "hey comrades this is the Kill Your Landlords Show" but it not only features daily stories showing the holes in capitalism, it also often prescribes explicitly non-lib solutions
Dang I haven't even really thought about TMR since we lost :michael-laugh:, excellent suggestion, thank you! :soviet-heart:
Glad to help! Michael's crewmate Matt Lech has picked up a lot of the slack left by that absence, and the co-host Emma while not very radical has been moving steadily left since she started on that show.
TMR also does show plugs every day, and one of them is Left Reckoning which is the continuation of the Michael Brooks show. Your friend is likely to check it out if they watch TMR enough. The two hosts of that show have big shoes to fill but they are doing a great job of it and I believe they will eventually surpass Michael Brooks given enough time. It's the same show in a lot of ways and they have done a lot of work with past TMBS guests.
glad to hear people are carrying on in his stead! i'll have to give it a looksee myself.
I mean you could share the Means Morning News podcast and say hey they explicitly say they’re anti-capitalist but beyond that it’s a really excellent, refreshing, often lighthearted consolidation of daily news like 3-4 times a week, quick 15 min episodes. You could ask them to try out a few and see if they like it?
