Volga-Volga is a Soviet musical comedy directed by Grigori Aleksandrov, released on April 24, 1938. It centers on a group of amateur performers on their way to Moscow to perform in a talent contest called the Moscow Musical Olympiad. Most of the action takes place on a steamboat traveling on the Volga River. The lead roles were played by Lyubov Orlova, and Igor Ilyinsky. Ilyinsky was one of the most notable Soviet actors and was awarded a Hero of Socialist Labor for his contributions to cinema/theater.

The feature was said to be Soviet Premier Joseph Stalin's favorite film. Nikita Khrushchev in his memoirs says that in the pre-World War II period Stalin laughed at him since he resembled a character from the film.

Maybe I'm just not that jaded yet but that stuff felt more like the typical reddit making shit up about other cultures to me. Any reason you think it couldn't be that, or why it being a Russian op makes more sense?

Yeah, I kind of doubt the authenticity of the original post, but I'm more talking about the reaction to it and the viral attention that it got. I just can't imagine why so many people would become so emerged in the dark past of a country as irrelevant as Sweden, and the fact this is spawning from a silly post about not being offered food is too much of a stretch even for Twitter I would think. Maybe I'm being overly optimistic, but I figured most Europeans already know about Sweden's past imperialism towards the Sami or the fact they were basically an Axis power in all but name.
