Shitposting this as a feminist that genuinely loves men and wants to see them liberated alongside women.

The first act of violence the patriarchy commits is forcing men to emotional harm themselves and view compassion and empathy as weakness.

Masculinity genuinely has a lot to love about it and viewing it as inherently always bad is a reactionary viewpoint leftover from 2nd wave feminism. That same reductionist thinking also lead chunks of that movement into becoming TERFs.

There is, of course, a lot of toxicity that men need to work through and that is part of what makes patriarchy systemically efficient. Patriarchy couldn’t perpetuate misogyny as a form of control if it didn’t first warp and hijack masculinity.

      GOOD post.

Feminism helps men just as much as it does women, and patriarchy is actively harmful to nearly everyone except for those at the very top.

YES! This! The path to liberation brings everyone on it.

Well except for the capitalists… the path of liberation generally tends to be paved with the bodies of the capitalist class.

This just made me realize I learned the phrase from the songs not the original poem because I know it as “the rising of the women means the rising of us all”

Virtually all of the personal growth I've gone through as an individual has included deprogramming some toxic aspect of machismo in one form or another. I know it's preaching to the choir on this site but it can't be said enough that feminism is a humanism and its promotion benefits us all :feminism:

        Fucking agreed.

All of my shitty social or interpersonal flaws stem from toxic masculinity which I had to dismantle brick by brick. First, by rejecting the systemic pressures placed on me as a man (basically fuck off if you think I should care about football or Metallica or anything else that makes the bros feel tough). And then, allowing others to define themselves around me as they see fit.

I tell people, especially dudes, all the time, rejecting the patriarchy will directly make you a happier person and easier to be around because there's so much shit you don't have to worry about.

Love this. Feminists have been able to capture femininity and turn it into something positive. A good woman in the 1800s was a narrow scope, either mothers or maidens. Now strong women in the popular culture can be virtually anything. Men need to do the same thing with masculinity, reshape the ideal so we can empower each other not at the expense of women or non-binary. Masculinity that loves our LGBTQ+ friends and supports emotional maturity.

Masculine people can be wholesome and lovable :gigachad: by building things and repairing things and growing things and lifting things and protecting things.

The :jordan-eboy-peterson: version of masculinity involves performative insecure theatrics and being a douchebag.

The funniest part is that everyone can pretty much instantly tell if you're an actually masculine person, or if you're doing weird performative shit. Shit like taking ground beef as a snack to see The Northman sticks out like a sore thumb precisely because everyone can see how fucking dumb it is. And Peterson nearly getting killed by his own daughter while trying to detox from Benzos is also just :chefs-kiss:

Legit seen better advice for men from feminist Instagram, than from every single fucking "mindset" or "motivational" guy on there. It's maddening how much money there is in telling men "you're shit, get better by buying my book", rather than anything actually useful.
